UN envoy urges France, all international partners to support Libyan dialogue

The UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily urged Sunday Libya’s regional and international partners to support dialogue between Libyans, including France, as he was in a meeting with French ambassador to Libya Mostafa Mihraje and discussed the latest political and security developments in the country, as well as the prospects for reviving the political process that is encumbered by prolongation and stalemate, according to a statement issued by the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

Central Bank of Libya announces spending, revenues of sovereign institutions in first quarter of 2024

The total expenditures of legislative and executive authorities amounted to about 565.88 million dinars during the first quarter of the year 2024, excluding salaries for last March, compared to 898 million dinars during the same period last year, including March salaries.

This revelation came in a statement issued by the Central Bank of Libya on Monday regarding public revenues and spending from January to March 31, 2024.

Tripoli International Stadium certified by CAF for international matches

Tripoli International Stadium has received certification from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as a venue for hosting international football matches.

The governing body of African football notified the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) of these developments following CAF's Security and Safety Committee's visit to Tripoli over the past two days.

The delegation was received by the LFF President, Abdulhakim Al-Shalmani, Secretary-General Abdelnasser Al-Suwaiy, and Security and Safety Monitor, Mohammed Quraymidah.

Ethiopian migrant tortured in Libya, mother's fundraising plea for $15,000 ransom

The "Refugees in Libya" Facebook page, dedicated to monitoring violations against migrants and refugees, has shared disturbing footage of torture and beating inflicted upon a migrant in the city of Bani Walid in order to force his family into paying a ransom for his release.

The promoters of the video clarified that the young man, named "Samuel Harrison," aged 29, hails from Ethiopia. His mother received a call in February from his captors informing her that he was being held in Bani Walid for a ransom of $15,000.

42 new schools to be available across Libya in April May

The Head of the Administrative Centers Development Authority, Ibrahim Takita, announced the delivery of 207 schools as part of the project to complete the suspended projects, pointing out that 42 new schools will be delivered during the months of April and May: 18 schools in April, and 24 in May.

This came during a meeting held by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah at the office of the Center for Educational Curricula and Educational Research with the Minister of Education, Musa Al-Magaryef, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry and the directors of the departments and centers affiliated with the Ministry.

Tripoli to organize International Conference on ophthalmology next May

Tripoli Eye Hospital will organize a scientific conference next May with the participation of a number of specialists and doctors from Libya and a number of Arab and foreign countries.

The Director of the Eye Hospital in Tripoli, Rania Al-Khoja, said in a statement to the Libyan News Agency, that the scientific conference will be held on May 9-10, with the participation of a number of specialists and doctors from India, Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Algeria, and an elite group of Libyan ophthalmologists.

Political motives behind the imposition of new foreign exchange tax

Despite all alternative proposals, and warnings, from economists who are well aware of the repercussions and consequences of the new foreign exchange tax, the Governor of the Central Bank, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabir, insisted on implementing his decision to devaluate the Libyan dinar against foreign currencies, after obtaining permission from Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agila Saleh, who was swift in issuing his approval of the measure.
